Protonix (Pantoprazole)
Protonix is another kind of proton pump inhibitor. Judging
from the word “inhibitor” by itself, this drug works the same way as a proton pump inhibitor does.
The drug helps reduce the production of the stomach acid which causes damage to the
stomach walls. Mainly, Protonix is used to treat erosive esophagitis (burning
throat) or the damaged in the esophagus that is caused by the acids in the stomach. This is also used
in treating the symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (acid reflux) and
other symptoms related to GERD.
If you are allergic to proton pump inhibitors, make sure
you have informed your doctor. Severe allergic reactions may be life threatening to the user. Protonix comes in
delayed-releasing capsule and packet forms all of which are taken per orem (or mouth). Also, ask your
doctor first if you can use this medication with other drugs. If you are allowed to, take this medication as
prescribed. For side effects and other allergies that may occur, seek medical attention as soon as
possible.
