The
drug prevacid belongs to a group of
Proton Pump Inhibitors. This drug helps in
reducing the amount of acid being produced by the stomach. It
is used to prevent and treat stomach and intestinal
ulcers, damages to the esophagus or what is commonly
known as erosive esophagitis caused by the acid in the stomach.
Prevacid is also used in treating excessive stomach acid conditions like
Zollinger-Ellison
syndrome.
Lanzoprazole works by relieving symptoms
such as heartburn,
persistent cough, difficulty in
swallowing and sleeping
disturbances as well as preventing
serious damage to the digestive system.
It can also be used to treat
ulcers
due to the long term use of certain drugs for pain or swelling
such as NSAIDs (non-steroidal
anti-inflammatory drugs).
Prevacid can
also be used to treat bacterial infection in the stomach
but must be combined with other antibiotics for a more
potent result.
