AcipHex (Rabeprazole)

Rabeprazole (Aciphex) is an oral drug that belongs to the drug group called proton pump inhibitors. It is used to treat conditions that are caused by acid in the stomach. It works by blocking the production of stomach acids. Proton pump inhibitor such as aciphex is used to treat acid-causing conditions such as stomach and duodenal ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease or GERD and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.   

Aciphex also works like other PPI drugs by blocking the enzyme that produces acid in the stomach. This mechanism helps in decreasing the acid of the stomach and allows the ulcerations in the duodenal and stomach to heal.

Aciphex can also be used to treat stomach infections caused by bacteria such as Helicobacter pylori and other ulcers caused by bacteria.

This drug is used for short term treatment of heartburn and other symptoms related to gastroesophageal reflux disease. In case you want to take other medications, consult your doctor first.

Do not attempt to mix this drug with other medications without proper prescription from your doctor. For persisting symptoms seek medical attention as soon as possible. 

Rabeprazole (Aciphex) Side Effects 

All medications may cause side effects to its users but many have no or minor side effects. If you are having any serious allergic reaction to any medication that you are using it is better to consult your doctor right away.  

The drug Aciphex works by decreasing the amount of acid that the stomach is producing. It is also used in treating other conditions which involve the excessive production of stomach acids. In relation to this, like other drugs, there are side effects that may occur to those who are taking this medication.

The most common side effect of Aciphex are diarrhea and headache however, there may be other serious side effects which one can experience. If you are having an allergic reaction such as hives, swelling of your face, lips, tongue or throat and difficulty of breathing seek emergency medical help as soon as possible. Other serious side effects to watch out when taking Aciphex are bone pain, chest pain, fever, chills, sore throat, swollen or blistered skin, severe or persistent stomach pain, unusual bleeding or bruising, lethargy and vision changes.
